Wellness & Hormone Clinic

Lee Obstetrics and Gynecology has been caring for women in the Auburn/Opelika area since 1965. This includes helping women navigate challenges that come with natural changes in hormonal patterns. Patients have their own specific set of symptoms ranging from mild to severe that may be disrupting their life. Therefore, unfortunately, there is no one size fits all solution. Our providers can offer a wide range of options to help patients find a balance that works best in their individual system. These options include hormone creams, patches, oral medications and subdermal pellets. Each option has its benefits and limitations as described below. Providers and patients should work hand in hand while exploring which option offers the best solution to fit a patient's individual needs best.

Hormone and Wellness Clinic Specifics

What are Bio-identical Hormones?

Bio-identical hormones are plant-based compounds specifically formulated to match the molecular structure of human hormones. They are the same hormones your body has before your hormone levels got low. The pellets are compounded according to the highest industry standards using the best quality botanical ingredients available. They are derived from a natural plant source of soy and other plant-based ingredients. Just pure, natural, biologically identical hormones-plain and simple.

Not all Hormone Replacement Therapies are created equally

Pellet therapy is a unique hormone replacement method that delivers the right kind of hormone (biologically identical), in the right amounts (based on testing & proper analysis of the results), using the right delivery system (pellets).  If you’ve tried other methods of hormone replacement, you may have experienced the emotional ups and downs they can produce. Why? Because your hormones were not yet restored to your natural level, something that pellets can address. Patients can’t believe the difference pellets usually make – from increased energy and vitality to a renewed sense of emotional and physical well-being. Pellets can last from four to six months or longer and there are no unsightly patches, messy creams or pills to remember to take.

How do I get started?

First, schedule an appointment with one of our Lee OBGYN Wellness & Hormone Clinic providers. You will then have your labs drawn at our office. At your follow up visit, your provider will discuss the results of your blood tests with you and prescribe a customized regime of hormone pellet for your body's unique needs. The pellet insertion procedure is then performed.

What is the procedure like?

The small hormone pellets (the size of a grain of rice) are slipped painlessly under the skin, typically in the lower hip/buttocks region. A mild, local anesthetic is used, and the procedure takes less than five minutes. Once the pellets are inserted, a steady, slow dose of natural hormone flows directly into the bloodstream. The pellets will dissolve on their own and there is no need for removal. Repeat treatments involve a brief visit to Lee OBGYN Wellness & Hormone Clinic office a few times per year for review of symptoms, labs and additional pellets as needed.

Are there any side effects or complications of the procedure?

Side effects of insertion are rare but may include minor bleeding or bruising, discoloration of the skin, or infection at the insertion site and possible extrusion of the pellet. There may be mild, temporary breast tenderness or temporary water weight gain, conditions which resolve on their own. Prior to pellet insertion, our providers will discuss risks and benefits of the types of hormones you may need.
