History

Lee Obstetrics & Gynecology was established in 1965. It is one of the oldest medical practices in the area, and was one of the first to adopt the use of electronic medical records. The practice was started by Dr. William “Steve” Russell, who is still practicing with us today as an office-based gynecologist.

Since starting the practice, our group has grown to a group of ten physicians. Our group delivers an average of 1400 babies per year. Our doctors have served in various leadership positions at East Alabama Medical Center, including Chief of Staff, Ob/Gyn Department Chair, and members of the board of directors. We have also had one physician serve as President of the Alabama Section of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as President of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.
